Who needs to complete a Self Assessment tax return?
There are many reasons why you may need to complete a Self Assessment tax return. But as a general rule of thumb, if you receive any income that isn’t taxed at source, you’ll need to complete a Self Assessment. For example:
- You’re self-employed or are a partner in a business partnership
- You receive rental income
- You receive untaxed income, such as tips or commission
- You have income from savings or investments
- You have income from trusts or dividends
- You receive untaxed income, such as tips or commission
- You have capital gains or losses
- You claim tax relief or have business expenses
- You are a trustee or executor of an estate
